The Church of the Good Shepherd has been offering developmentally appropriate care for children of working parents, in a Christian environment, since 1955. We serve children from six weeks to five years old in our five-star rated center. The rich history and superior rating of our Day School program speak to the stable environment that you will find here for children, teachers, and parents.
Our hours of operation are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. We provide breakfast, lunch and snack for all of our children. We serve a healthy and well-balanced lunch in the Day School Cafeteria where children begin to learn table manners.
With 52 students, we maintain a low teacher:student ratio. We follow what is called “enhanced” teacher to student ratios making us one of the few programs in the city providing this high level of care and attention. We have an infant room, starting at six weeks old and welcome breastfeeding families. We provide age appropriate curricula through Pre-Kindergarten.
Chapel services are held each week for our preschool classes and led by members of the church clergy. Music class is led by the church music director and regular “extra curricular” opportunities are provided, in center and around town.
One of the gifts of our program is our location. We take advantage of being located directly across the street from the Imperial Centre complex and just two blocks from Braswell Memorial Library. The Imperial Centre houses our city’s children’s museum and arts center which provide great teaching opportunities in a fun environment. The library has an amazing collection of children’s material and regularly offers programs for children in which the Day School participates. Other field trips are held on a regular basis.
